<div>We’re looking for an <strong>Associate Editorial Director for a 12-month fixed-term contract (maternity leave cover) </strong>– someone who is equally passionate about the science and writing as they are about nurturing and developing client relationships. You’ll lead by example – crafting clear, engaging, and scientifically accurate content for a wide range of therapy areas and audiences, acting as a trusted advisor to clients. You’ll also be responsible for overseeing our agency-support division, guiding fellow writers to deliver work that truly Writes with Bite, and working closely with our Studio Manager to oversee the continued growth and success of this side of the business, with a firm focus on business development.&nbsp;</div>

<div>This is a <strong>full-time, remote role (37.5 hours per week) </strong>with flexibility built in – designed for an experienced writer and team lead who thrives on variety, autonomy, and purpose-driven work in healthcare communications.</div>
<div>&nbsp;<br><strong>Salary and Benefits</strong></div>
<ul>
<li>Salary of £62,000 to £66,000 per annum.&nbsp;</li>

<div>&nbsp;<br><strong>Key responsibilities:</strong>&nbsp;</div>
<div>This is a split role:</div>
<ul>
<li>You will be billable for 50% of the working week, which means you will work directly with some of our agency clients. As part of this, you will be operating at the level of a Principal Medical Writer in our industry-renowned agency support services and will:
<ul>
<li>Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic input where needed and adding value above and beyond the brief</li>
<li>Be responsible for developing high-quality, scientifically accurate materials across a range of formats — from meeting materials to medical education, digital content, and strategic communication platforms</li>
<li>Guarantee all copy adheres to ABPI and local codes of practice / guidelines, proactively communicating any concerns and proposing solutions to ensure code compliance&nbsp;</li>
<li>Adhere to deadlines and budgets, maintaining transparency and open communication with clients to resolve challenges that may arise&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ensure content adheres to in-house or client-specific styles&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>For the remaining 50% of your time, you will be responsible for leading the team in our agency-support division. As part of this, you will:
<ul>
<li>Directly manage and/or support writers across all experience levels, providing consistent support through monthly one-on-ones, actionable feedback, and collaboratively setting quarterly development goals</li>
<li>Periodically review and edit content produced by both in-house and freelance writers, delivering constructive, timely feedback to uphold quality standards</li>
<li>Monitor and ensure team efficiency targets are consistently met, identifying and addressing any areas for improvement</li>
<li>Oversee our existing agency relationships with our Studio Manager, regularly lead and participate in client-facing calls (and meetings where appropriate), to build the relationship, obtain feedback, and drive organic growth&nbsp;</li>
<li>Be responsible for taking the unique Word Monster offering to new agencies, reaching out, scheduling calls and having good conversations</li>
<li>Oversee agency forecasting and assessing pipeline opportunities&nbsp;</li>
<li>Take initiative in driving innovation—proactively suggesting new services, improving internal processes, and contributing to business development efforts that support Word Monster’s continued growth</li>

</ul>
<div><strong>Desired experience&nbsp;</strong></div>
<ul>
<li>Education to PhD level in biological sciences&nbsp;</li>
<li>Extensive experience as a PMW or above with the ability to work independently and proven experience of writing excellent creative/medical copy in an agency environment&nbsp;</li>
<li>Previously led a team of and managed junior writers, with proven experience managing performance, supporting engagement, setting SMART goals, and supporting employee wellbeing&nbsp;</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of the strict regulations in pharmaceuticals, with experience working to ABPI and other codes of practice</li>
<li>Exceptional leader with demonstrable experience securing and converting new business&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
